Livestock News: African Swine Fever Enters PH

The disease has been transmitted by pigs from poultry farms called African Swine Fever, an infectious and debilitating disease that has killed an estimated 12.6 million pigs in the country.





About 263 billion pesos is the total value of pork sales and at 344, 437 metric tons are passing from overseas to trade as Philippine products. At least 19 countries are currently affected by the African Swine Fever including Russia as the top of the list followed by Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Moldova, South Africa, Zambia, Hungary and others. No drug or vaccine was found. Africa is the home country of the Swine Fever, due to the name of the disease. Usually coming from foreign trade or trade, processed meat and smuggling is the reason for the continued spread of infection from the domestic markets. According to the Chairperson, ASF Task Force May Magno, the number of Swine Fever cases in the country continues to grow due to the lack of control over the meat exchange scheme in the country.
